1994: St George's Hall, the building that became The Westray Heritage Centre

View as you come in the door

Edwin Rendall and Sam Harcus chatting in the entranceway before the alterations were started.

This information is a short extract from the file on the building that we keep in the Heritage Centre. At the moment the only way you can get the full picture is by visiting the Heritage centre and going through the file. In time we will have the information to download in PDF form, for an online fee, but that will take us a while so please be patient. To continue:

The Lodge.

The present age of the building is vague, but as shown on a plan dated 1831 within the bounds of an area designated "Rev. Geo. Reid's Feu" beside a very substantial house, now the Pierowall Hotel. To date, its foundation as 1830 would be reasonably accurate as the Hotel was build for Rev. George Reid as his manse, George Reid being the first Minister of the Westray United Presbyterian Curch after the Succession.

More information to follow shortly.
